The work involved major waterproofing and the installation of internal bulkheads and watertight fixtures.<br\/> It was entirely financed by the Prosecutor&#8217;s Office with its own funds and required over a year of work.<br\/> The area affected by the work, behind the rectory overlooking the Rio di San Marco, is particularly low above sea level, so seawater began to enter the basement as soon as it exceeded 70 centimeters, even reaching the Crypt of the Basilica of San Marco. The most serious event occurred in 2019, during the Acqua Granda, when water entered through the Crypt&#8217;s windows.<br\/> This intervention therefore completes the protective measures for the entire Basilica, completing the safety work already ensured on the front and side by the glass barrier built in Piazza San Marco.<br\/> Installation of the new construction site for the maintenance of the south facade began today<br\/> of the Ateneo San Basso, located in Piazzetta dei Leoncini, next to the Basilica.
