The Procuratoria of San Marco is the “fabric committee” of the Basilica Cathedral of St. Mark the Evangelist, which is the body responsible for the protection, maintenance, and restoration of the basilica, the bell tower, and other related properties.<\/p><\/div>

The name Procuratoria of San Marco was assigned to the fabric committee by Royal Decree on July 9, 1931, in memory of one of the most important magistracies of the Serenissima Republic of Venice (1797).<\/p>

The Procuratoria of San Marco is governed by the Procuratoria Council, consisting of seven Procurators who elect from among themselves the President, known as the First Procurator.<\/p>

The Procuratoria Council selects and appoints the Proto of San Marco, an engineer or architect entrusted with the direction of technical services with specific duties for the respectful preservation of the buildings and their individual parts through the use of the most suitable means provided by technology, in accordance with the requirements of worship and the provisions of ecclesiastical authority.<\/p>

The Proto is assisted in all tasks and activities of the office by the Technical Office, the Basilica’s Workforce, and other professionals.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
